What’s Causing Your Toothache?
Toothaches are often caused when deep decay, cracked teeth, infections, or a traumatic accident compromise your tooth’s nerve. You may or may not know which tooth is the source of your pain or why, but that’s what we’re here for.
At your consultation, Dr. King will conduct a gentle dental examination, including 3D x-rays, and determine if your pain is in fact tooth-related, and whether or not it’s coming from a single tooth or multiple teeth. Once we’ve identified where the pain is originating and its cause, we can recommend the best treatment to help you feel comfortable again.
Toothache Treatment Options
Root canal treatment is the best way to maintain and prolong the life of your tooth when the nerve has been compromised from infection. However, a toothache doesn’t always mean you need a root canal or that root canal treatment is the best option for you. Alternative treatment options might be a tooth extraction, gum disease therapy, TMJ- related therapy, or something else.
Never rely on self-diagnosis or over-the-counter pain medication as a permanent solution. Left undiagnosed and untreated by a professional, you could lose the tooth completely or face a dangerous infection that impacts your entire health.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will my toothache go away on its own?
No. Sometimes toothache symptoms will temporarily subside and you might even believe that the worst is behind you. Don’t believe it! In almost every case of a toothache, the pain will eventually return — only much worse than before. You may be at risk of losing your tooth.
What is a root canal?
A root canal is a treatment performed by an endodontist that involves removing the inflamed or infected nerve of your tooth, carefully disinfecting the nerve space within your tooth, and then sealing that space. Once your root canal has been completed, we recommend you return to your general dentist for a dental crown or other permanent restoration.
